Rook
96"x 18"x 18", Powder coated steel, LED lights, anemometer, micro-controller

Rook combines a form that was designed using parametric modeling tools with a lighting system that responds to real-time wind speed and temperature data.  Customized parametric modeling tools were used to slice a solid volume into a radial grid configuration and to output cutting and engraving patterns.  RGB LED lights are contained within a frosted acrylic tube and are at the center of the form.  In addition to being animated by the speed of the wind, the LEDs change color in relation to outdoor temperatures.  A spectrum of colored light is generated and ranges from red at 90 degrees to violet at 15 degrees.
